Yesterday I had a general anesthesia appointment for some work on my teeth. Everything went fine (mouth is a bit sore, but my teeth look new again) but only one problem occured. Before I went under I saw the heart rate monitor (quite a feat since my eyes are practically shot and I have to wear somewhat thick glasses). But I saw the heart rate monitor and, keeping myself from freaking out, noticed it was beeping fast. I took a closer look at it and from what I could tell (and hear) my heart rate was 150-200 beats a minute! (I'm guessing, but I know it was in that range)
I asked them what was wrong and they said I was a little stressed or probably anxious. I wasn't, I already did this a few times (I was nervous, every patient is I'm sure) but then I thought, "Ok, if I'm not stressed or anxious, if a bit nervous, why is my heart beating a 2 and a half-3 miles a minute? (literally)" That made no sense. Now they want me to have a blood test to make sure everything is fine. Even they got concerned because my heart rate was probably constant during the procedure, otherwise they wouldn't have me take a blood test (I might also have myself do a physical test.)
My heart is resting normally (about 70-75). Also my blood pressure was perfectly normal at the time (120/70). I'm just trying to figure out what the hell caused all that! It's never happened before!
