All creatures feel and react to fear, and there are telling signs of such reactions. Our palms perspire, hearts beat faster, breaths quicken and shorten; and as our bodies quiver - our thoughts run wild. I spent most of my life studying the psyche of all living beings on Nirn - all I could, anyway. Then when it came to the subject of fear... for some reason it was all I could think about.

Six simple words written on a wall. Spoken in shouts beyond human comprehension. Faas ni Brendon do Dinok. The language of the dragons and the ancient Nords; a language hard to decipher and even harder to translate. Years it took me to understand it's meaning, and that's when I got lost in the subject. Fear not the Specter of Death, though only part of the complete passage it was the only part that I focused on.

The specter of death, the idea death itself. Something all living beings fear. Even the heartiest and most powerful of warriors driven by the very idea of earning a part in whatever warrior afterlife they may believe in. Why do all living organisms fear such a natural part of life? That question was the sole premise of my studies; of my life's work.

Fear is likely the strongest emotion any creature can fear, this I know for certain. I did many... tests... to prove that fact. Defense mechanisms, triggers, the existence of patterns, the lack of them. Yet the same single question remained. So I decided to find the answer in myself.

And so that brings me to my final entry here. I found out exactly what the pinnacle of fear looks like, what it feels like. Turned my tests and observations on myself. The deed is already done, and to summarize, I have been allowed to leave with one last entry; this entry. The answer to my question, it turns out, is quite simple.

Uncertainty. Rather disappointing, I know. But, that's it. The simple idea that nobody truly knows what might be waiting on the other side. I should have taken into account the entire phrasing that ancient writ said. Fear not the Specter of Death, for his is the Harold of Glory.

At first I thought it was merely a matter of phrasing, an analogy - the specter of death. It's not. The Specter of Death is a being, or beings, everything and nothing. An all encompassing being that stands at the border between where life ends and the afterlife begins. The ultimate agent of Sithis and his void. It welcomes you in with open arms, and guides you on the path to whatever afterlife it judges you to belong in.

As I said before, I've been allowed this entry. Why? Well I suppose my story helps to modernize that which has been told time and time again. The ancient Nords called their teacher the Hoar Father, Frandar Hunding by the Redguards, and the list goes on.

My name doesn't matter now, but I'll ask that you trust in my words. Fear not the Specter of Death, he is your herald of glory. Forever watching, vigilant and waiting to greet you. Eager to accept you with open arms when your time is right. Prepared to protect you when your time has yet to arrive.

    He is everywhere.
