I really want to get rid of ataxia and the rattles it's so annoying! Even though I go to shrines and it says cure diseases people in the towns still comment on me being sick! I even tried potions! And it still doesn't work!
People will comment on you being sick, but to really know you have to go to Magic and look at Active Effects. If it doesn't list Ataxia or the rattles then you're fine.
Arcadia, the apothecary in Whiterun will often comment that you look sick even though your aren't. She's simply trying to convince you to buy her wares to cure your "illness."
