The escape was on, arrows and spells were flying everywhere, prisoners and Thalmor alike being slaughtered, Daryl knew they wouldn't all make it. Daryl followed Kyne and saw Ardin run up to her, he didn't seem to notice Daryl. Ardin was ranting to Kyne and "I was too busy dealing with Daryls idiot brother.." Daryl heard Ardin say. "Hey" Daryl said as Ardin and Kynes attention drew to Daryl "choose your words more carefully." Threatened Daryl. "No I did, idiots what I meant" Ardin replied. Daryl just snorted and ran off, running over to Merle. Through the midst of the chaos Merle stood, giving hell to the Thalmor.
Merle now had an Elven sword and was taking down as much Thalmor as he could with other prisoners at his back, Daryl ran close enough for Merle to hear him. "MERLE!" Shouted Daryl, "Get your dumb ass over here, we gotta go!" Daryl tried shouting over all the noise. Merle finished off a thalmor soldier and ran his way over, a Thalmor ran behind him and as he brang a strike that would have killed Merle into his back Daryl used his pick axe to push the sword out of the way- it narrowly missed Merle. Daryl smashed the sharp end of the pick axe into the right side of the Thalmor and it doesn't pierce the armour, the Thalmor hunches over in pain and as he goes to stand up Merle throws him to to the ground. Daryl brings his pick axe into the face of the Thalmor, there was a sickening crunch. Daryl was certain if he tried taking off the helmet the soldier was wearing his skull would fall apart, Daryl and Merle ran to find the others.
Daryl looked around the chaos and couldn't find the others, Merle couldn't care less. "Let's just leave em they played their part" Merle said, Daryl looked hopefully into the crowd and saw nothing, Daryl followed his brother. They ran towards the doors into the embassy/prison, there were many corridors and not much direction to guide the two. The pair ran hopelessly through the halls, being able to avoid most Thalmor.
Daryl had all but given up hope when Merles voice echoed through the halls, "Ooooooh baby!" Daryl heard Merles voice coming from a room. "Merle what is it?" Daryl asked. No answer. "Merle" called out Daryl. Daryl could hear some rummaging coming from a room, Daryl slowly opened the door, left arm up blocking and an Elven dagger in the right ready to lunge into anyone.
Daryl saw it to just be Merle, he had found the barracks. Merle went through, ignoring the armour and weapons and finding his custom leather armour. Without putting it on Merle went through one of the pockets, pulling out a bag of skooma and sleeping tree sap. "Are you kidding?" Snapped Daryl, "This whole time you were just looking for your stash? Ardin was right about you!" Shouted Daryl, pointing his left hand index finger at his brother. "Aw don't be like that" Merle said, "I grabbed something of yours too" Merle said looking over to a weapons rack, it was lined with bows and one of them was missing. Daryls crossbow lay at Merles feet, Daryl walked over still pissed off, glaring at his brother he picked up his crossbow. The grip felt so right in his hands, he felt noticeably better with his crossbow in his possession. "Grab whatcha can, we gotta go." Merle said, peeking out a door, he chucked on his black leather vest and kept watch.
"We gotta wait for the others, they'll come by here, they won't stand a chance otherwise." Daryl said, grabbing his own black leather vest, Daryls had two angel wings on the back and the vest fit in perfectly with his already sleeveless top. "They're dead anyway, Thalmor are probably burying what's left of your friends right now." Merle said, still looking out the door. "How can you be so sure?" Asked Daryl, by now Daryl was also at the door. "They didn't stand a chance, were lucky we got away from them, now quit your bitchin' and let's go!" Merle shouted at Daryl, Daryl ignored him.
"Dammit Daryl." Merle said, walking over to the armoury again, "if we're gonna wait we might as well prepare". Merle made a makeshift bag out of some leather and put as many iron ignots he could fit in there, using some leather straps he made it possible to wear it on his back. The bag was closed by leather straps around the leather keeping it from opening, the bag was really just laid out leather with straps around it.
"What the hell do you need that many iron ingots for?" Asked Daryl, "You should be out finding the cafeteria and stocking it with food not iron ingots. Do you like wasting time?" Daryl said, as he left from his post at the door and walked a few steps in Merles direction, he was holding his crossbow with both hands. "Ain't you a curious little fella" mocked Merle, "if you must know I want to make something with it, ya'll won't be complaining when it comes in use." Merle said, looking at his brother like this was a big game.
Daryl heard the sound of 10, 15 people running in their direction, Merle ducked down behind a table and Daryl hid two metres from the door and to the left. "Shut the door" hissed Merle, Daryl leaned in slamming the door shut. Thalmor rushed past the barracks, not noticing the loud noise the closing of the door created. "That was too close for comfort! I'm not waiting around no more, we gotta go Daryl!" Merle said, panic on his face. Merle rarely called Daryl by his real name, it was a rare occurrence. "C'mon Merle we can't just leave em" pleaded Daryl, "like hell we can't!" Said Merle, he went to walk out the door but Daryl grabbed his shirt and pulled him back. "If it wasn't for the elf you wouldn't be able to walk out that door!" Said Daryl, "You'd still be working in that bloody field so shut the hell up and wait."
"Keep your pants on Darlina, they got two minutes" Merle said, to a pissed off Daryl. "If he started this whole thing I'm sure they can go on without us, they ain't give two plopss about us. Just think if it was them who got here first, do you think they would have waited?" Merle said, the last sentence really got to Daryl. Merle could see the change in expression on Daryls face, which caused Merles next comment. "And here you are tryna help people out in the goodness of ya heart, even though you might die doing it, is that something the Thalmor taught you?" Merle commented, trying to manipulate his brother into leaving.
Daryl could hear more footsteps and voices, he walked over to the door, they were getting closer and closer. Daryl got to the door, the footsteps were coming from the left. Daryl drew his crossbow and got ready to leap out and shoot one of the many people who were coming their way. Daryl jumped out to see the surprised faces of Kyne and Ardin, the rest of them were there as well. Daryl lowered his crossbow, nodded and backed up so they could enter the barracks. As they entered the barracks Daryl made note of their faces, "ah it's that ranga from earlier!" Merle said, pulling a smile. Daryl sighed and looked down, embarrassed by his brothers actions and remarks. "She brought her daddy with her too!" At this Ardin said something, and Merle and Ardin looked as if they were about to fight- with weapons.
Daryl stepped in, by now he had put his crossbow on his back. "Merle just back off, we don't got time for this now you're gonna get us all killed!" Daryl said, "now stop messing around and back off". Daryl pointed at Merle, then to behind Merle when he said "back off". Kyne looked at Daryl impressed, which Daryl noticed. He walked a little closer to her "Not such a hot headed idiot now huh?" Said Daryl, remembering what she said back on the carriage when the girl was killed. Merle was going to say something about Kyne being hot headed due to her partially red hair, but said something else instead. "Guess the old man only did raise one smart son." Merle said from the back of the room. This immediately angered Daryl, "Man he didn't raise nobody!"
Daryl stood there, fists clenched trying to hold his anger in. This is where the quiet imperial Titus stepped in, "Didn't your mum ever teach you boys manners?" He asked in a calm tone. Daryl turned to the man, and stepped forward "Well I don't even know what a real mums spose to be like!" Daryl yelled, he stormed out of the room, turning and slamming the door. Seconds later a loud thud was heard on the door, Daryl had kicked it. On his way out of the room he saw Kyne look at him, "shut up" he said, thinking she'd say a smartass remark about him flying off the handle and proving himself wrong straight after he said he wasn't a hot headed idiot.
Everyone's gaze turned to Merle, he just looked somewhere else avoiding their eye contact.
Daryl was pacing back and forth outside the room, he ran his fingers through his hair trying to calm down. He managed to calm down by the time the High Elf had stepped out, not long after the others followed armed and armoured. Daryl and Merle didn't say another word to each other.
